Hello, everyone. My name is Marie Exantus. I am from Haiti. In my country, they call me Widlyne; that’s my middle name. My first languages are Creole and French. I’ve been here in the USA for almost two years, and I am still learning English. I learn from you guys and from my 5-year-old at home every single day.I am happy to be here, and I am excited to become a nurse.

Hello Marie! Wow, it’s so fascinating how many languages you’re familiar with and hearing about your homeplace! Did you have any culture shocks when you came to the states? I took French back in high school, but I’m not very fluent in it anymore. So excited for our nursing journey together!

Hi Marie, my grandmother on my dad’s side immigrated from the Dominican Republic! I don’t speak any Spanish, unfortunately. I wish I knew a second language. It must be so hard learning a third language and now going to school! I have faith in you, we will all make it through this.

Hi Ava, Oh really! If you want, we can practice French together. There was no culture shock when I came here because the Americans occupied us. Haitians are very familiar with American culture. So, I adapted very quickly; my only obstacle was the language.

Hi Cristina, I was thinking about that when I saw your last name. Your grandmother could speak Creole too; you never know. Yes, it’s hard for me to learn another language, but I’m trying.
