ParticipantCristina said something quite similar about having a fresh set of eyes review your writing. I agree, after writing for a lengthy time, things can be hard to revise and having somebody else review it can be helpful when they can point out things and give you feedback.

ParticipantI like what you said about having someone else read your article, I agree it can definitely be helpful especially having a new set of eyes after you’ve been working on it for a while, sometimes I feel that way too when I no longer understand what I’m doing anymore.

ParticipantHello Selva!
I like how you brought up confidentiality being a big concern in the media world, nowadays it’s so easy to access things online! By protecting our children, we’re protecting them from the internet and thousands of people who may have access to our children’s information. I agree that specific research can have adverse effects on children, so it’s best they are given the information before making a decision to sign consent forms and allow their children to participate in something that may not benefit them by any means.

ParticipantHello Pumi!
I agree that children should always be protected, like you said there are people who take advantage of this population. Unfortunately, it’s more common than not, but there are definitely ways we can limit that and protect our children! Signing a consent form if parents are comfortable is a good alternative to limit this ongoing issue, it maintains their autonomy and allows them to decide what is and what isn’t alright for their children.

ParticipantHello Cristina!
I definitely agree with you that there is no excuse for plagiarism, especially when there are multiple occurrences happening! I could understand a small slip up, or just lack of properly citing all your sources, I think some people don’t understand the full extent of what’s considered plagiarism. But, like you said it is quite easy to do so, especially nowadays where there are websites that will do it for you, put it in APA or MLA, etc.

ParticipantHello Pumi!
I didn’t even think about self-plagiarism! I honestly didn’t realize it was a thing until today, but it’s definitely a good thing to keep in mind when writing because who would’ve thought you had to cite your own prior work! I like how you mentioned they’re robbing themselves of their skills when it comes to writing and creativity too, it’s important to incorporate your own ideas and thoughts too!

ParticipantI think a lot of these mistakes like you mentioned are preventable, but people don’t take the time to review their writing and correct any errors. I truly think the lack of retracing back is the biggest reason for this outcome, some things like google doc and word have set preferences that either go along APA format or don’t, and in that case would need to be altered manually!

ParticipantI also wrote about in-text citations being a common mistake in APA formatting. I agree with the idea of paraphrasing; it does make you believe that it’s your own original idea. This is something that took me a while to learn back in the day, but now I understand the purpose of still giving the author credit no matter what!

ParticipantHello Pumi!
I like that you mentioned the adverse effects of using non-scholorly sources and how many articles include false information. Non-scholorly resources can negatively impact one’s writing. By choosing sources, like google scholar as you mentioned, people can have evidence supporting their statements and improve their writing significantly.

ParticipantHello Mel!
I think it’s very important that you mentioned what scholarly sources are available for people to use. There are several resources that are available that many aren’t aware of fully. By educating people on the options, it can improve one’s writing and have supportive evidence behind it!

ParticipantHello Cristina!
I really enjoyed reading your post and hearing your perspective revolving emerging technologies. As you mentioned, some people may not want to pass on danger family traits, and my mind goes straight to mental illness, cognitive abilities, etc. I think it’s a good thing to keep in mind how people are using these technologies and understanding the risks that also come with them before making a decision. I agree there are some things for people to think about before moving along the process and potentially saving their baby’s life by eliminating potentially dangerous genes that could be passed down.

ParticipantHello Marie!
I think it’s important how you mentioned the risks of artificial wombs and how it can reduce risk of complications during childbirth. There are so many mothers who are at risk during pregnancy and many complications can occur. As you mentioned, artificial wombs can reduce this issue and hopefully provide mothers and partners the chance to have a healthy safe pregnancy! I didn’t even begin to think about the religious perspective, but it’s a great thing to keep in mind when some people are against that, so how do we accommodate for them?

ParticipantHello Melanie!
I also agree, evidence-based practice is a key element! By continuing to be open to learning and expand our professional development, we can provide patients with the best outcome. As you said, patient outcomes would not end well if we didn’t, I can’t begin to imagine the horror stories! I think back to earlier years of nursing practice and how things have positively changed tremendously just in the past twenty years!

ParticipantHello Cristina!
I like how you shared the use of personal protective equipment and how times have changed. Nowadays gloves are very normalized, and nurses are discouraged for not wearing them at times. As you mentioned before, it’s hard to believe it was seen negatively, but in all reality it’s just to protect the patient or us even from the smallest germs!
