    1. We know that Dr. Pou will be a significant figure in this story. What about Fink’s description of her strikes you the most? What are her strengths and weaknesses?

Fink’s description of Dr. Pou suggest that she respected and somewhat admired the skills that Pou has. Some of Pou strengths were her ability to be a leader and her work ethic. Being so dedicated to her work affected her personal life.

    2. Memorial sustained damage but remained functional on backup power as Hurricane Katrina passes through New Orleans. But we know that other perils await the doctors and patients in the days to come. How do you feel after reading this part of the book?

The Hospital upper management could have and should have taken the proper steps to protect their employees and patients. For example, they knew that their generator needed to be relocated after previous incidences proven it would be under the water line.

    3. As Memorial shifts from “assault mode” to “survival mode” we see snap shots of the chaos outside the hospital walls. Why is martial law instated?

Martial law is when the military steps in to patrol the streets. Martial law was instated because of the looting and chaos happening in the city, lack of ability for the law enforcement to handle the disaster solo.
