It is every nurse’s responsibility to make sure that their patient is safe all the time. One way to make sure we’re meeting our patient safety requirements is by reading the medical order thoroughly and correctly. The basic components are patient identification information, drug name, ordered dose, route of administration, and frequency of administration. Including six medical administrations, the right drug, the right dose, the right route, the right patient, the right time, and the right documentation. Each right gives a nurse the opportunity to question and clarify any misinterpretations in the administration of the drug that may lead to medical errors. Patient safety involves the collaboration effort of healthcare professionals.
