1. it was not fair these accusations were just to me a slap in the face of the drs who had little to no control over the disaster. Dr Pou is a cancer specialist comfort is sometimes the main priority when she is helping her patients. She worked endlessly in horrid conditions to give the best care she could. She was put into a horrible position and left to make snap decisions there was little outside help she was being held responsible for the mistakes and mis haps of officials she should never have been facing a life sentence in prison. She was a good DR with pre intentions to keep people comfortable.
2. Fink had to address this to being awareness of the issues this state faces they need resources and help
3. says the link is not available but I did find it on hulu and it clearly dramatized Dr Pou’s role beginning out by saying she scrounged up pain meds from street looters that was not the case AT ALL she was not accessing street drugs. One lawyer in particular who is assisting in her defense (in the show) tells her character to just admit she euthanized her patients. This side of it is not really painting an accuarate representation and could make people view her in a different light.
4. My view on mercy killing has always been that it should be used as a last resort however if a patient is determined terminally ill they should be able to decide for themselves if they want to speed up the process and avoid useless suffering. I do not think a DR should ever take matters into their own hands in typical circumstances this is definitley not a simple black and white topic.
factors that sway people are from personal experience and their religious beliefs strong catholics feel that aiding in mercy killing is a sin as it goes against Gods will and they means a lot to a lot of individuals.
5. Dr Pous attorney would not be able to find the AMA guidelines as they did not exist until after the hurricane and after the arrests. discussion about care during disasters was only prompted by Pous case
6. he felt that the conditions at the hospital were so horrible moral judgements could not be made basically if you werent there making the decisions or working in the horridness you should have no judgement in the matter -
