John Thiele’s decision to smother a man in the face of disaster was a difficult one, but likely the only option given the dire circumstances. while better preparation could have been done, it’s uncertain if that would have been enough to prevent such a situation unfortunately, people wish to DO Not resuscitate orders, and those too heavy to transport were not given priority and their end-life preferences were not acknowledged. it’s a heartbreaking reality, and it’s hard to imagine what one would do if faced with the same difficult decision.
