    I think it is impossible to ask why wasnt more done for these patients when we do not know what was actually going on in the situation. We have heard the details second hand after the fact. We did not experience it first hand and we do not know if guidelines or just the severity of the storm caused how the patients were treated. We do now know however that the hospitals need to be prepared better and have clear guidelines to follow and secure leadership.

    Theiel, justified smothering the patient because previous attempts to make the patient “comfortable” had failed. He truly felt he was ending the patients suffering.

    I don’t believe end of life preferences were taken into consideration . Many people died alone. Some religions believe no one should touch the body immediately following and yet they had to wait months to “collect” their loved ones. DNRs were given to patients that didn’t want them.
