    1. 45 People died at Memorial Hospital during Hurricane Katrina, which was the largest number of deaths for any health care facility impacted by the storm.

    2. The Medicaid Fraud Unit opened an investigation into each of the hospitals and nursing homes where people died and Tenant will have to show that the Disaster Plan was followed to demonstrate no wrongdoing with regard to the death of the patients.

    3. Tenant waited more than two weeks after the deaths of their patients to notify the family members and when they finally did so they created a call team to notify them over the phone. The patients that were evacuated by bus were driven to Dallas where they stayed at the upscale, Anotole Hotel and given toiletries, food vouchers and assistance in reuniting with loved ones. The patients that were rescued by helicopter were taken to nearby hospitals that were also owned by Tenant, where they received meals and showers.

    4. Butch Schafer’s mantra, “Don’t Get Emotionally Involved” must have been difficult to follow in light of his daughter’s recent death. She suffered from an aggressive form of rheumatoid arthritis and died in her sleep after being over-prescribed medications by her doctors. Toxicology results showed her medications magnified the effects of one another and Bruce was furious to learn that the pharmacy had not cross-checked the prescriptions.
