    1. Dr. Evans learnt from Hurricane Katrina to assist her in navigating the dilemma of the six power outlets. First off, they learnt that most, if not all of the patients in the ICU depended on electrical powered equipment to stay alive and many were on life support. The questions that remained was if there was a deliberate effort by the staff to keep the patients in their best health.
    2. Some changes took place in disaster planning after Hurricane Katrina like comprehensive emergency planning, backups of supplies, and a backup for a power source. This story impacts my feelings about the AMA because they tried their best to accommodate facilities and to offer advocacy.
    3. Maryland’s approach to disaster planning was to keep the patients comfortable, keep dignity and peace, and they were also well-prepared to handle disasters.
    4. The AMA provided guidance and advocacy. The justice system should do an intense investigation before taking anyone to trial, or trial before a jury.
    5. I do agree with Roger Bernier’s statement because as a nurse you should provide the same care to each patient regardless of their culture, race, or spirituality. All decisions should be made with the health of the patient in mind.
    6. Your education can prepare you for making the right decisions in such a situation because it equips you with the necessary tools, knowledge, and tricks to be able to keep the patients comfortable. This book offers wisdom due to the way that it described in depth the situation that the patients and nurses were in from the shortage of supplies to the shortage of nurses available. I took this book as a lesson to be prepared for the unexpected and to always document in case your work turns back on you in court, you have evidence that you did or did not do something. This book serves as an important message to nurses that although it might not be easy, you still have to keep the patients wellbeing, dignity, and peace optimal in situations.
