it felt impossible to think that they didn’t do something to help her out or at least give her some oxygen. Green was like, emotionally checked out because this lady meant a lot to her, and she couldn’t bear watching her fade away on the ground.
So, they were shocked that Vera wasn’t rescued as promised. Instead of getting helicoptered out of Memorial, she was just lying there near the ATM, surrounded by these green striped leaves. And get this, her “Do Not Resuscitate” status wasn’t recent – she asked for that more than ten years ago.
The hospital was turning people away because there were way too many sick folks, and they didn’t have enough stuff to take care of everyone. They were hustling to send people out ASAP because bringing in more patients would mess up their whole plan. It didn’t seem like a race thing, though – they were turning people away no matter what color.
I think putting down the pets was the kindest move. if nobody was around to look after them, they’d suffer, right? Starvation, overheating. They could’ve tried taking the pets with them or left them and tried to swing back later, but Mark gave the heads up: they brought the boats, so they could take the pets away too.
